HIFA2015 is a global campaign and knowledge network that brings together more than 5000 health workers, librarians, publishers, researchers and policymakers in 2000 organisations across 158 countries worldwide, all committed to a common goal: By 2015, every person worldwide will have access to an informed health care provider. One-third of members are based in Africa, one-third in Europe, and one-third in the rest of the world. They range from senior executives at the World Health Organization to community health workers in rural Uganda.
HIFA members are working for a future where people are no longer dying for lack of basic healthcare knowledge. They interact on five forums:
1. HIFA2015
2. CHILD2015 in collaboration with the International Child Health Group of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health
3. HIFA2015-Portuguese in collaboration with WHO, Geneva
4. HIFA-EVIPNet-French in collaboration with WHO, Geneva
5. HIFA-Zambia in collaboration with the Zambia UK Health Workforce Alliance
HIFA2015 explores the health information and learning needs of all groups of healthcare providers in low-resource settings, from mothers and ordinary citizens to hospital doctors and policymakers. As part of its remit, HIFA2015 has hosted many discussions on issues related to the availability of electronic journals, including HINARI and other initiatives.
HIFA2015 is administered by the Global Healthcare Information Network, a UK-based non-profit organisation working to improve the quality of health care in developing countries. It has received financial support from the British Medical Association, British Nursing Index, ePORTUGUESe/World Health Organization, International Child Health Group, Lancet, Network for Information and Digital Access, Rockefeller Foundation, Royal College of Midwives, Royal College of Nursing, THET and several other health and development organisations.
